FAQ
Q: What is Twonky Video?
A: Twonky Video is a new way to discover interesting videos using your mobile device and "beam" them to your connected TV. With one search, you can play videos from multiple websites and save your search as a channel that automatically updates with new content. You can also customize your channels with other search terms, see what's new and popular across the web, and access videos stored on your mobile device or home network. If you want to view all of these videos on a larger screen, you can beam them to a TV or other compatible device on your network like and Apple TV.
Q: What does Beam mean?
A: Beaming is the ability to send digital files, such as a video, over a network for playback on different devices, without having to actually store the information on that device.
Q: How is Twonky Video different from other mobile media players?
A: Twonky Video lets you quickly create channels based on your interests with videos from all over the web. Playback the results on your mobile device, or beam them directly to your connected TV or other device, such as an Apple TV. Twonky Video will move on to the next video in the list without you having to do a thing. You can also share the videos you find with your friends.
Q: Why should I register with Twonky?
A: By creating a Twonky account, you can save your favorite topics into My Channels and have new videos waiting for you every time you use Twonky Video. With a registered account, you can also share videos to your Twitter or Facebook accounts and send links to your friends using email or messaging.
Q: How can I register?
A: Using the Android menu key, go to "Settings", then select "Settings" again. Then select "Account Management." You will find a "Twonky Account Sign-in" section. Press "Create Account" and fill out the form to set up your account. Once completed, Twonky Video will keep you signed in and you can start saving channels.
Q: What are My Channels?
A: Every time you search for something, you are creating a channel of videos. If you have a Twonky account, you can save your search topic into My Channels, then add, delete and reprioritize search terms so that you only get the videos you really want. These channels are automatically updated, so there are always fresh videos waiting for you to watch.
Q: How can I create my own video channel using Twonky Video?
A: Touch the area on the screen where it says CREATE CHANNEL. Then, enter a search topic. You should then see a list of all videos that match your criteria.
- To save the channel, touch SAVE AS CHANNEL in the lower right hand corner of the screen. You need to be signed in to your Twonky account to save a channel. Please see the instructions above on creating a Twonky account.
- To play a video, click on its thumbnail and the video will start full screen playback on your mobile device.
Q: What's the best way to stop a channel of videos from playing on my connected device?
A: Press the Pause button or click on the Beam button a second time to stop beaming.
Q: Why do videos sometimes appear in My Channel that don't seem related to my search terms?
A: Video results are based on the tags used to describe the video by the person who posted the video. To view the tags, click on the arrow to the right of each video. You can refine a channel by changing your search tags, as described below.
Q: What are Tags?
A: Tags are individual keywords used to describe a video. Twonky Video looks at a video's titles and tags to create channels. So when you perform a new search or modify the keywords for your saved channels, you're adjusting the tags to control what types of videos will appear.
Q: How can I fine-tune a channel to improve my results?
A: Go into My Channels and tap the name of a channel at the bottom of the channel box. Next, choose SHOW TAGS. The first time you do this, you'll get a message about fine-tuning your channel. Click OK. Then, click on a tag and delete it or adjust its importance. Swipe your finger to the left to decrease a tag's importance, or swipe to the right to increase its importance. As you do this, you'll see the tag decrease or increase in size. After you're done, press SAVE to store your changes.
Q: How can I find more videos like the one I'm playing?
A: Start playing a video and then press the arrow on the right side of the screen. If it doesn't appear automatically, touch the screen. Now, click on MORE LIKE THIS at the top of the screen. In a few seconds, you'll see the carousel at the bottom update with new videos that are similar to the one you were playing before.
Q: How can I bookmark videos I want to watch later?
A: Start playing the video you wish to bookmark. Then, touch anywhere on the screen and a control bar will appear. Touch the arrow on the right side of the screen and select BOOKMARK. A message will appear telling you the video was added to your list of bookmarked videos. To view bookmarked videos, touch BOOKMARKS at the bottom on the screen. You can sort bookmarks alphabetically or by date. Click on any video to play it.
Q: What is the difference between a Bookmark and a Channel?
A: A bookmark refers to a single video. A channel is a list of multiple videos. Bookmarks are static and do not change. Channels are dynamic and may change over time based on the keywords used to create them.
Q: How can I watch video from My Channel on my connected TV?
A: Click on the thumbnail for a video to play it. Then, touch the screen again and the control bar will appear on the screen. Then, click on the word "Beam" on the right-hand side of the screen. A window will appear that asks you to select the device you want to play the video.
Q: Where can I find a list of devices that work with Twonky Video?
A: You can find a list of media players that work with Twonky Video on Twonky.com.
Q: Will all DLNA-certified devices work with Twonky Video?
A: Not all DLNA-certified devices work with Twonky Video. In order to work, a device must be certified as a Digital Media Renderer (DMR) and play the file format you are trying to play. You can visit
www.dlna.org to see how they classify your device. The instruction manual for your device should have the file formats it can play.
Q: Why does my connected TV fail to play some videos?
A: Most connected TVs cannot play every type of video found on the Internet. If you want to play video from the Internet on your TV, you may need to purchase a low-cost media adapter that supports more formats than your TV does. If you want to play videos taken on your phone, you may have to first convert them to MPEG-2 or another video format that your TV can play.

A: Twonky Video uses the media player that comes standard with your mobile device. This player cannot play every type of video found on the Internet.

A: You can share videos you find via Twitter, Facebook, e-mail or mobile messaging. As an example, here is how to do this via Facebook.
- Click on the gear icon in the upper left-hand side of the screen.
- Touch "Settings."
- Go to "Account Management" and touch "Check Facebook profile."
- If you aren't signed-in, you'll be asked to create a Twonky account now.

- A Wi-Fi network is required when using external media players or servers
- A UPnP AV, DLNA-certified or Airplay-enabled media player is recommended, but not required
Q: Can I use Twonky Video with Twonky software running on my computer?
A: Yes. If you don't already have TwonkyManager or TwonkyServer, you can download a trial-version here. Browse the server to find the videos you want to watch. You can watch them on your mobile device or beam them to your TV.
Q: Can I beam videos that I take with my mobile device on my TV?
A: It depends. Some TVs can play these files and others cannot. If your TV cannot play your videos, you can copy these files to your computer and convert them to a format your TV can play, such as MPEG-2, or purchase a low-cost media player that can play these formats (e.g. WD TV Live or Apple TV).
Q: How do I beam videos that I take with my mobile device on my TV?
A: Go to MY VIDEOS and then select MY PHONE VIDEOS. Touch the video you want to play and then touch the BEAM button. Next, select the device you want to play the video.
Q: How can I beam video to my Xbox 360?
A: Make sure your mobile device and Xbox 360 are connected to your home network. For example, connect your Xbox to your home router and set your phone to use the Wi-Fi signal coming from your home router. Sometimes your phone will switch to another Wi-Fi network without telling you, so make sure that your phone is indeed using the right Wi-Fi network.
Xbox will only show up in Twonky Video after it is paired with a Windows Media Center PC. Follow these steps to pair your Xbox with your computer:
- First, you have to launch the Windows Media Center icon from your Xbox. This will provide a key code that you can use to connect with a PC running the Windows Media Center application on it.
- After you have paired your PC to your Xbox's Windows Media Center, re-launch the Twonky Video application. The Xbox should now appear in the list of devices when you try to beam a video. If it doesn't, then make sure you're running your Xbox as a Media Center Extender and that the Media Center app is running on your computer.
- There is also a setting in the Media Center settings screen that enables DMR functionalities. You must enable this because it isn't always enabled by default.
Here is how to enable the Xbox 360's renderer option:
On the Xbox 360:
Settings -> Extender -> Options -> [x] Allow computers and devices on my home network to push Music, Pictures, and Video to my extender
